Below is a list of the tax brackets for 2012, but remember, if you are in a tax bracket it does not mean that all of your income is taxed at that rate. Only the portion of your income that is in that bracket is taxed at that rate.

 

For example:

 

If you are single and you made $9,700 in taxable income, the first $8,700 is taxed at 10% even though you are in the 15% tax bracket. Only the amount from $8,701 to $9,700 is taxed at 15%. Stated another way, the first $8,700 is taxed at 10% the next $1,000 at 15%. Here are the brackets for 2012:
