IRS CONTINUING BATTLE OVER HEALTH CARE

IRS Tax ProblemsIRS News

Legal battles continue against the new Health Care Law. In the most recent round of lawsuits, some employers are challenging on religious grounds that requirement that health plans that are subject to the law must provide no cause coverage for contraception. The results have been mixed.

In a case in Colorado, the District Court ruled that the government is barred from enforcing the contraception mandate. However, in other cases around the country, the actions have been dismissed by the Court. This law will affect businesses for sometime because employers with 50 or more workers, that do not offer federally approved coverage, will be fined $3,000 for each employee who gets a tax credit by buying insurance through state run or federal exchanges. Remember the IRS has been tasked with pursuing the taxpayers who fail to pay the fine.
