Lois Lerner was once the head of the IRS tax exempt division. Last month she testified before a Republican led congressional committee. She angered the committee when she refused to answer questions based upon her right under the Fifth Amendment.

This committee is now investigating admissions by the service that they held certain conservative groups to a higher standard.

When ms. Lerner testified last month she read a statement that she “did nothing wrong” Before invoking her fifth amendment protection.

Republicans are arguing that her statement waved her Fifth Amendment rights.
“That is not the way the Fifth Amendment works. You don’t get to tell your side of the story” and then avoid cross examination” said Republican Trey Gowdy.

The Republicans may now seek to have her held in contempt
